"This is my happening man...and it freaks me out!"

Film ***

By the end of the 60's, the Valley was overrun by sex crazed, pill popping, bimbo's who needed a rolodex just to keep their partners straight!

The 70's rolled around and we were forced to look Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls.  Unfortunately, the view from the top of the mountain just reveals another valley below with Sodom and Gomorra Phase II written all over it.

Kelly, Casey, and Pet are three beautiful young women out to make a name for themselves in the music business.  With a little money in their pocket, they hit the road with their small town manager to find fame and fortune under Hollywood's bright lights!

Fortunately for the group, Kelly has a well to do aunt who gives them plenty of bread to spend, and hooks them up with Ronnie (Z-Man) Barzell a famous music promoter.  Will these girls be able to survive surrounded by sex (of every variety) drugs (of every variety) and rock & roll?!

I have never watched a movie that left me so flabbergasted!  I will be the first to say that this movie shocked me with the amount of lewd and lascivious behavior it contained.  Nothing in this film was taboo, and everything that should have been taboo, was explored in shocking detail!

Now don't get me wrong, I did not dislike this movie.  On the contrary I laughed my silly behind off at the goings on in this film.  This movie made fun of the 70's and the people who lived during that time in a way that I have never seen before, or since!  I have much respect for people who are bold enough to make a movie that was labeled as Musical-Horror-Sex-Comedy!

Obviously this film was a satirical sequel to the first, "Valley Of The Dolls," movie.  However, don't let the name and wrapping fool you, this movie goes way beyond the first one in scope and scale for deviant and improper behavior.  The acting wasn't the greatest, and as far as I can tell none of the people in the movie ever had huge Hollywood careers.  Then again, for the type of movie this was, the people who were chosen seemed perfect for the parts!

This movie is definitely NOT family friendly unless your entire family happens to be over the age of 26...I would maybe even go so far as to say 30!  However, if you want a good laugh, and some funny adult entertainment then you'll definitely want to take this DVD for a spin Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls!

BONUS TRIVIA:  Renowned film critic Roger Ebert actually wrote the screenplay for this movie!

Video ***

These dolls were transferred to 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen format, and I must say, they look smashing baby, yeah!  Colors were bright, and vivid with a minimum of dirt and graininess visible.  Once again the dolls from the valley really prove what great video and audio are all about.

Audio ***

The 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound on this two disc DVD set really raises the bar.  No longer will I tolerate substandard audio transfers for movies from the 60's - present day!

The audio was clean, while the levels remained constant throughout.  Also, (despite the fact that I was merely a babe in toyland during the 70's) This movies soundtrack was pretty cool.  I definitely recommend this soundtrack I wouldn't mind having it on CD to listen to every now and then.
