Donít you love it when the weekend comes and you can slip into a pair of very worn and comfy jeans? Thatís how this movie felt for me, like I was slipping into something familiar and comfortable.
Bridget, Carmen, Lena, and Tibby are back, and the jeans...well, the jeans fit better than ever! Itís the summer after their first year in college and the girls are ready for some fun and excitement. Once again, the jeans that they loved so much from the first film will help them stay in contact with each other no matter how far apart their summer plans keep them.
Bridget is Turkey bound on an archeological expedition, while Carmen gets her Shakespeare on at a summer theater in Vermont. New love awaits Lena as she spends her summer at the Rhode Island School of Design, and New York, New York, is calling on Tibby, who is ready to take the next step with boyfriend Brian!
I was extremely happy, and a bit worried when I found out that Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 was being made. I really wanted to see part two in a film version, but I have been severely disappointed with sequels in the past, and worried that too much time had gone by for the actresses to still be able to channel the characters as well as they did in the first film. I shouldnít have worried because between these four talented actresses, their supporting cast, and the crew managed to impress me with this film as much as they did the first go round!
I really do love Alexis Bledel. I believe she is a truly underused and underestimated actress who needs more opportunities like this one to show everyone just what she is capable of. Along the same vein, I think Amber Tamblyn is hard core, old school acting. She really immerses herself in every role she takes, and always manages to reinvent herself to give each character new life. With this film she easily reacquired Tibbyís character and added new layers to her that allow you to see how the character, as well as the actress, have grown since the first film.
When the first film came out, Ugly Betty hadnít become a big star yet, but now America Ferrera is a household name. I really like America, she seems so bubbly and upbeat. Also, since the first film, she has grown up and blossomed into an even more beautiful young woman than before.
Gossip Girl Blake Lively is another one who hadnít yet made a name for herself when the first film came out. However, since the first film she has managed to become one of the hottest things to hit the tween scene! This film was a very good opportunity for Blake. I know I sound like a stuck record, but she like all of the other girls has really developed her acting skills since the first film, and that helped this second outing be even better!
Itís romance, laughs, and tears as the girls face life head on, with the help of each other, and some physics defying jeans. Whether you prefer boot cut, flair leg, or tapered, these traveling pants will fit any girl out there with a hankering for a good movie!
There are many lovely shots in Sisterhood 2, and this high definition transfer captures the locations, landscapes and scenery beautifully, with remarkable detail and color rendering. It's not as demanding as an action film for 1080p, but still a bright, crispy and sunny delight to behold.
It's mostly a dialogue driven film, so there aren't many demands on the TrueHD soundtrack. Spoken words are well delivered, but dynamic range and rear channel usage is minimal, though the music is a nice touch, and the outdoor scenes really deliver a solid sense of ambience.
The featurette ďGo Jump Off A Cliff: How the Exhilarating Final Sequence, Not Originally in the Script, Was Inspired by Fan Reaction to the First Movie,Ē was really neat. It was really nice to see the process of how we fans can effect what gets put up on the big screen! There is also a funny gag reel and some deleted scenes.
This movie is fresh, funny, heart breaking, and uplifting all wrapped into one beautifully produced package! Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 makes for a fun and worthwhile family experience on Blu-ray.
